When the era of war is over and a peaceful era comes, demand for carpenters and knives for agriculture and forestry has grown higher than knives as weapons.
In the winter of Etigo there were a lot of snow and residents' work was small.
As a side job during the winter, they began to make Japanese nails (Wa-Kugi) for use in construction.
At such time there was a large fire in the town of Edo, a lot of nails were carried from Etigo using the ship.
From that time they began to make tools used by carpenters.
